ShibbolethShared services such as the CLEs and the DRC would be hampered to the point of being ineffectual if users were forced to repeat login procedures at each of these systems. The third component, a Shibboleth federated identity management system, provides both single sign-on from local institution to the CLE hosting institution and access to the materials placed in the DRC.
