"Introduction to Infrastructure" - Doug Gale, Director, OARnet

This half-day workshop is designed for managers and administrators faced with making technology decisions, but who want to be better informed about the current and future states of technology. Two themes will be explored: "Campus Communications Infrastructure for the 21st Century" and "Multimedia Over Digital Networks." The first theme reviews the requirements for supporting voice, video, and data communications in the 21st century and presents recommendations for strategies that minimize cost and maximize flexibility. The second theme considers the convergence of voice, video, and data communications and reviews the advantages and disadvantages of the various technologies that are being promoted. Some of the issues that will be addressed in detail are "voice over IP" and digital video to support both distributed and campus instruction.
