Dr. Stephen M. Millett of Battelle was the keynote speaker at 2000's Ohio Learning Intranet conference. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 21, 2000 Contact: Kate M. Carey Executive Director 614/995-3240 kcarey@oln.org COLUMBUS, Ohio - An internationally recognized authority on emerging technology and co-author of A Manager's Guide to Technology and Forecasting and Strategy Analysis Methods, Dr. Stephen M. Millett of Battelle is the keynote speaker at this year's Ohio Learning Intranet conference. Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Roderick G. W. Chu is also speaking at the conference as the featured luncheon speaker. The conference, sponsored by the Ohio Learning Network, is October 23 and 24 at the Columbus Convention Center. OLN (www.oln.org) is a consortium of Ohio's public and private colleges and universities and is a new initiative of the Ohio Board of Regents. OLN helps Ohioans access higher education, assists colleges and universities in the effective use of technology, and helps build partnerships among higher education, schools, businesses and communities. The Thought Leader of Battelle's Energy Products Division, Dr. Millett identifies emerging technologies and predicts future consumer demand of these technologies for clients in North America, Europe, and Japan. Dr. Millett is also the co-manager of Battelle's initiative in Healthy Home Technologies. At the conference, he is sharing his views on the future of technology and its impact on Ohio higher education. Dr. Millett has authored or co-authored four books, 24 professional journal articles and chapters. After graduating from Miami University, he earned an M.A. and a Ph.D from The Ohio State University. He also served in the United States Air Force and as a faculty member at the Air Force Institute of Technology's School of Engineering, located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Millett joined Battelle in 1979 as a national security analyst. It was here that Dr. Millett began applying his scenario analysis to companies like BellSouth, Proctor & Gamble, and Honda. Chancellor Chu is an internationally recognized leader in helping transform institutions, which makes him a strong chancellor for Ohio during this period of transformational change. He will share his vision and his expectations for the promises new technologies offer to today's system of higher education at his luncheon address. Chu became chancellor in 1998. Prior to his arrival in Ohio, Chancellor Chu was a Trustee of the State of New York. He also served on a number of committees and advisory councils at Cornell University. Also, Chancellor Chu has helped transform institutions and participated in Vice President Al Gore's 1993 Reinventing Government Summit. Professionally, he served as the Commissioner of Taxation and Finance for the State of New York and as the Worldwide Managing Partner Government Practice for Andersen Consulting, an international consulting firm. As Chancellor, Chu's primary responsibility is to challenge and guide Ohio's higher education system toward new levels of performance and achievement in serving students, Ohioans, and the nation. In partnership with Governor Bob Taft, the Ohio General Assembly, and higher education, business and community leaders, the Chancellor works to ensure that Ohio's colleges and universities add significant value to the lives of their students, continuously improving and ensuring the future of Ohio and its people. Chancellor Chu holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from Cornell University. The University of Rio Grande, Youngstown State University and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College have awarded him honorary doctorates.
